Hunt, Don: "My sculpture is an extension of my life, my interests and beliefs." With a family who owned extensive ranching interests in Texas, Don's knowledge of the true 'cowboy way' was personal and authentic. He was a professional bull rider for over nine years. His experiences are evident in the authentic energy of his sculpture.
"I know the agony and the ecstasy. My roots run deep. My heart skips a beat when I hear the sounds of an auctioneer. I lived it everyday for over 40 years."
As a young boy, Don began drawing and sketching to satisfy his creative spirit. While studying as an apprentice with Randy Steffen, Don cast his first bronze. This was a turning point in his life. "I have to participate. In three-dimensional structure, I live the story. I experience the meaning. I strive to capture motion and the moment in bronze. Whatever form or content, my focus is to allow the viewer the experience of seeing the coil of energy and power that continue living within the sculpture.
The Hunts relocated to Colorado in l999 to be closer to the Loveland, Colorado bronze foundries and the area's large sculptural art community. In 2004, they moved their residence to San Antonio, Texas. Don continues to keep studios in both states for working and exhibiting. He continues to work on his animal and figurative commissions in life-size and monumental scale for public and private spaces.
Don Hunt bronzes are in numerous U.S. and International collections.
