Brentz, BJ - Originals:

B.J. Brentz has been interested in art since she was a child.

“My first commercial venture was to draw paper dolls, design their clothes and sell them to my friends when I was in the second grade”.

She attended college in the 60's with the idea of becoming a representational painter in the manner of the old masters. The art school environment at that time didn't quite meet her expectations so she moved on to combine her art interest with another: science and medicine. She earned a B.S. in Biomedical Communications in 1977 and worked for many years in medical graphics and illustration. A fortuitous layoff in 1985 gave her the opportunity to return to painting full time.

She has studied with Daniel Greene, Albert Handell, Bob Rohm, Ann Templeton, Kay Polk and Luis Escobado. She considers herself to be mostly self-taught. She is a classical painter in philosophy and practice. Her work is based on sound design and drawing skills and relies on the relationship developed with her objects.

She has had one-person shows at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts in Irving, Texas, Over the Edge Gallery in Grand Haven, Michigan and the Beaux-Arts Gallery in Grapevine, Texas. She has participated in many gallery shows and competitions.
